This week, Year 6 Eagles have been working on creating social media databases with at least 5 records that contain specific information about the social media.
Mr Baddhan showed the children how to quickly search for information from their database based on the search criteria. And how information can be sorted and grouped depending on the data within record.

During Computing this afternoon, Year 6 Eagles have been learning about databases. The children discussed the various places a database is used and the types of information they hold.
In the next couple of lessons, Eagles will be creating a social media database with the following fields.
– Social Media Name
– Age Rating
– Purpose
– Child friendly?
– Number of users
Eagles class today researched on five different social media sites to find the above information.
Tomorrow the children will be creating their databases in 2Investigate in Purple Mash based on this information.
Today, Eagles used ‘pick random number’, ‘set value to’ blocks in their program so the user is prompted with random multiplication questions.
Some of the children added sound for the correct answer and a different sound for the incorrect answer.
Some of the children exceeded further by displaying a different backdrop on a correct answer and another for an incorrect answer.

Whilst spending the week completing lots of different computing activities with Mr Baddhan, Year 6 also completed some online safety and technology in our lives lessons in the classroom.
Online Safety – Managing Online Information
Within this lesson, the children discussed the information that can be found online. They then went on to discuss how this information can be made up of facts, opinions or beliefs and is therefore not always reliable.
The children had a great time thinking of their own examples of facts, opinions and beliefs.
How does the Internet work?
For this lesson, the children completed their very own research online and created their own posters. These posters had the purpose of explaining to others in the school what the Internet is and how it works. Some of the lovely creations will be displayed in the school!
Understanding how searching works
Following on from the previous lesson about how the Internet works, Year 6 then learnt about how searching the internet works. They watched a very informative Google video that explained how search engines have their own index where they search for keywords. These results are then narrowed down (by asking lots of different questions) before being presented to you.
